What Is Minimalist Web Design?

Minimalism, in all art forms, is basically the reduction of something to its bear essentials. In terms of web design, minimalism refers to the production of a website from the basics – instead of including every design element under the sun, only the necessary features are included.

But what design elements should you utilize to design a minimalist web page? There are three things that every web designer should keep in mind:
• Subject – keep in mind what the most important thing on the web page is, and ask yourself whether it will be effective in keeping a visitor engaged and focused on your site.
• Usability – keep in mind what parts of your design can encumber a given visitor’s experience of your site, and ask yourself what you can add to improve usability.
• Balance – keep in mind whether the site has an appropriate visual hierarchy, and ask yourself whether you have given suitable visual weights to the various components.

Minimalism is increasingly becoming a very popular web design trend, as it helps businesses and companies to create a website that focuses solely on its intended purpose. The busier and more colorful web pages of the past few years offer too much in the way of distractions for visitors.

But do not let this fool you into thinking that a minimalist website design is taking the easy way out when it comes to your own website. There is just as much thought, planning and production in minimalism as there is in any other web page design style.

In saying this, it is also important to remember that a minimalist web design must be understood in order to be properly and effectively executed – it is not a website style for everyone, but when done well, a minimalist web page design can be both effective and beautiful.
